More Food Foodcourt

Out of Singapore, back to KL – the city greets us just like it waved goodbye the last time, i.e. with a heavy rainshower.

The last days have been spent exploring the soul and mind of Singapore and finding an answer to the question: “How can a 1:1 ratio of shops:people possibly pay off?”. Singapore is literally packed with malls and shopping centres, the “S”-Signs indicating a shopping-opportunity on the map have trouble finding space next to each other. If some clever economic mind can explain to us how this system works out, we are more than grateful!

Another thing this city seems to be obsessed with is food (in case you are wondering about the title of this blog – the “More Food Foodcourt” actually exists). You can find food courts literally everywhere you go, serving everything from Asian to Western cuisine, including Korean food, much to the delight of Ms. Katharina, who spent her days in Korean 7th food heaven. Sundubus, Bibimbaps, Bulgogis, Kimbaps… nothing left to be desired.

For me the only things left to say, as I’m going home tomorrow (ooowwwh), are thank you for staying updated and reading the blog so frequently and godspeed you, Katharina, may Laos only hold the best for you. Best wishes, S.

STR pt. 2: (i.e. Stefan Tourism Report):

Michael Haeupl is sober for one morning (hey, it’s all imaginary) and decides to get Frank Stronach to transform the Donauinsel into a well balanced mixture of a Magic Life holiday resort, Ibiza and Disneyland. Not possible? In Singapore it is. Pay attention to the cargo-ships in the back (photo below). Sentosa Island – apparantly the place to be in Singapore!

Well, good old Singapore, quite different from what we’ve learned from Johnny Depp’s pirate-adventures… Tidy, clean, almost as sterile as a hospital wing – and rules for almost everything, yet very energetic, very Asian, 50% malls – 50% food courts and a 44th national birthday yesterday (we somehow have the talent for stumbling into this kind of thing). Wondering how you celebrate the birthday? Anti-terror shows… just kidding. Ok, no kidding – that’s exactly what it was. Live on TV, and live above our heads while heading out for dinner. Later the usual fireworks (quite minimalistic for those who attended Oporto’s Sao Joao festival in June). Here you go, the official video of the NDP 2009:

Singapore also provided the girl with the camera with some really nice opportunities to get creative… see below as usual. And always remember dearly: “Nothing spoils a beautiful view like an ugly butt!”
